Learning XML

A great book for beginners.  Illustrations break down each part of XML syntax.  A beginner can look at the illustrations and understand enough XML to get started.  Explainations are clear.  Examples are usefull.  The only drawback is a lack of good schema coverage.  The rest of the book is so good, it is worth buying even if you have to pay list price.

Beginning XML

This a hugh book! The size is a little intimidating if you are just getting started, but the topic coverage is exhaustive. If you want to know about any aspect of XML, you will find a very thorough explaination, complete with examples, in this book. Strongly recommended.

Professional XML (Wrox Press)

This book is even bigger than Beginning XML! It covers all of the topics of Beginning XML plus formatting objects, VoiceXML, RDF, Web Services and UDDI. Strongly recommended.

XSLT by Doug Tidwell

I really like Michael Kay's XSLT book better. Still, this is quite a book. Doug Tidwell has a really cool sense of humor that makes the book very readable. He includes a major case study that covers every aspect of XSLT. There is a lot to be said for this book. It reads a little bit like a stream of consciousness novel, but the knowledge is genuine and deep.

XSLT by Michael Kay

This is an exhaustive, authoritative treatment of an important and complex topic. You must have this book on your shelf. The ISBN is 1-861005-06-7. Wrox Press is the publisher. Pay list price if you have to.

Professional JavaServer Programming (J2EE Edition)

This is a must have book. It covers a lot more than just XML. It covers a lot of ways to create a world class server on the World Wide Web.  Written to coincide with the release of J2EE 1.3 specification. Not just a simple update but also a complete evolution of content with all concepts taken a step further for a more mature audience. New material includes extensive coverage of EJB, JSP, JMS, Security for B2B applications, XML, SQLJ, deployment and debugging
